Cocktails, Illustrated Talk, and Book Signings with:

Architectural Digest Decorative Arts Editor, the AD Aesthete Mitchell Owens, and Emily Evans Eerdmans, the administer of the Mario Buatta blockbuster auction at Sotheby's and author of the Mario Buatta book, and Textile Designer Lisa Fine and author of Interiors I Love.

WHEN: Thursday, March 26, 5:45 to 8 pm, at Wells Abbott and JAMES Showrooms

WHAT: Cocktails, Illutrated Talk and Book Signings. Join us as we Topic Hop:

1. Giants of Design.

2. The Blockbuster Mario Buatta Auction of the Decade.

3. How Travel Inspires.

Mitchell Owens, the erudite and extremely knowledgeable Decorative Arts Editor of Architectural Digest, Mitch is the voice behind AD's podcast The AD Aesthete, where he delves into the legacies of iconic decorators and contemplates the promise of design's future. He is editor of books on Jansen and Elsie De Wolfe, author of Fabulous! The Dazzling Interiors of Tom Britt, and In House (Rizzoli).

Emily Evans Eerdmans, design historian and administer of the blockbuster Mario Buatta auction, co-author of Mario Buatta: Fifty Years of American Decoration, and author of the definitive books on Madeleine Castaing and Henri Samuel, all published by Rizzoli.

Textile designer Lisa Fine, gathers together in her book, Near & Far: Interiors I Love (Vendome), the bohemian rhapsody of interiors that inspire her, from Mughal palaces to gardens of India, to a Tangier Casbah belonging to Jamie Creel, and the white-washed Patmos retreat of John Stefanidis. Indian textiles, Turkish rugs, Greek embroideries, and Anglo-Indian furniture all echo Lisa’s collections of hand-printed textiles, carried across the globe at John Rosselli, Hollywood at Home, Holland and Sherry, Tissues d’Helene, and at James Showroom in Houston, Dallas and Austin.

TALKING POINTS: Designers such as Mario Buatta, Elsie de Wolfe, Henri Samuel, Madeleine Castaing and Jansen took the historical design that came before and electrified it, interpreting it for a new era and audience, creating rooms that designers still look to today.

The late Prince of Chintz, Mario Buatta's reign is more powerful than ever, as evidenced by the blockbuster two-day Sotheby’s auction of his personal collections in January. In a bidding frenzy over hordes of silver, bamboo flatware, and spaniel paintings, Buatta enthusiasts spent a collective $7.6 million. The sale went  2.5 times over the sale’s high estimate, and 4,000 visitors attended the week-long presale exhibition.

Why You Can't Miss: We are enraptured. And not just with Mario Buatta, but with the legacy of interior design’s top historical talent, how it inspires today's designers, and how travel is the common thread.
